Goeppertia lietzei 'White Fusion'
Base species: Central and South America, including Brazil/Honduras records
Elliptic leaves with marbled white, pale green and dark green variegation, often with purple-toned undersides.
Forms a leafy clump from rhizomes; leaves may move slightly with day-night light changes like other prayer plants.
Goeppertia honours German botanist Heinrich Göppert; White Fusion refers to the mixed white, green and pale variegation.
Often still sold under the older name Calathea White Fusion. Current taxonomy places the species in Goeppertia rather than Calathea.
Use filtered/rain water if possible. Keep the mix lightly moist, warm and humid; avoid hot direct sun which scorches the white variegation.
Repot when rootbound into a fine airy mix with coco coir or peat, perlite and bark. Avoid oversized pots that stay wet too long.
Monthly at quarter to half strength in spring and summer.
- Crispy brown edges from low humidity, salts or tap-water minerals; leaf curl from drying out; spider mites in dry rooms.
- White Fusion is gorgeous but dramatic: the white areas contain less chlorophyll and mark or crisp faster than green tissue.
