Anthurium warocqueanum
Colombia.
First described by Thomas Moore. (1878)
Long narrow velvety pendant leaves with bold pale venation; mature leaves may become very long in ideal conditions.
Epiphytic Anthurium with a central growth point and pendent leaves; growth is best treated as upright for the current app habit map.
warocqueanum honours Belgian horticultural patron M. Warocqué.
Accepted Anthurium species. POWO lists it as an epiphyte from the wet tropical biome.
Needs consistent humidity, warmth and excellent root aeration. Water carefully: evenly moist, never dense and swampy.
Repot only when needed into a chunky bark/perlite/coco or similar aroid mix. Keep the crown above the mix and avoid oversized pots.
Monthly at quarter to half strength during active growth. Flush occasionally if using mineral fertiliser.
- Leaf crisping from low humidity or missed water; root rot from poor aeration; spider mites/thrips can mark new leaves.
- The famous Queen Anthurium: beautiful, dramatic, and fully capable of making growers question their life choices.
