Origin & Habitat
Northeastern Peru.
First described by Jean Jules Linden. (1866)
Description
Large elongated heart-shaped leaves with pale veins; mature foliage can be spectacularly long and regal.
Upright subshrub Anthurium with large leaves held from a short central stem.
Botanical Notes
regale means royal or regal.
Accepted Anthurium species. POWO lists it as a subshrub from the wet tropical biome.
Care Guide
Best with high humidity, stable warmth, very airy mix and careful watering. Avoid drying hard or staying soggy.
Repotting
Repot only when needed into a chunky bark/perlite/coco or similar aroid mix. Keep the crown above the mix and avoid oversized pots.
Feeding
Monthly at quarter to half strength during active growth. Flush occasionally if using mineral fertiliser.
Common Problems
- Leaf edge crisping from low humidity; stalled growth from cool nights; root loss if the mix remains wet and cold.
Notes & Curiosities
- A wishlist velvet Anthurium for many collectors; mature leaves are dramatically larger than most beginner Anthuriums.
⚠ Toxicity: toxic to pets, toxic to humans. Araceae plant with insoluble calcium oxalate crystals; chewing can irritate the mouth and digestive tract.
