Large showy green leaves, often elongated-heart shaped, with strong venation and a substantial tropical foliage look.
Large upright epiphytic subshrub Anthurium; best grown with room for broad leaves and a supportive chunky root zone.
pseudo- means false or resembling; spectabile means showy or notable.
Accepted Anthurium species. POWO lists it as an epiphytic subshrub from the wet tropical biome.
Give room, bright filtered light, humidity, and a chunky mix. Keep evenly lightly moist while maintaining oxygen around the roots.
Repot only when needed into a chunky bark/perlite/coco or similar aroid mix. Keep the crown above the mix and avoid oversized pots.
Monthly at quarter to half strength during active growth. Flush occasionally if using mineral fertiliser.
- Leaf edge browning from dry air; root rot in stale media; new leaves deforming if humidity or watering is unstable.
- The name says “false spectabile”, which sounds like a botanical side-eye.
