Description
Distinctively shaped green leaves with a narrowed “waist” or pandurate outline in mature foliage.
Collector foliage Anthurium with upright growth; best grown warm and humid in a chunky mix.
Botanical Notes
The epithet refers to a fiddle-shaped or pandurate leaf blade.
Accepted Anthurium species. POWO lists it from Ecuador in the wet tropical biome.
Care Guide
Grow warm in bright filtered light with excellent drainage and steady humidity. Keep evenly lightly moist, never stale and waterlogged.
Repotting
Use a chunky aroid mix with bark, perlite/pumice, and moisture-retentive organic matter. Repot gently when roots fill the pot.
Feeding
Monthly at quarter to half strength during active growth. Flush occasionally if using mineral fertiliser.
Common Problems
- Root rot in dense media; leaf edge burn from dry air or salts; spider mites, scale, or mealybug; cold damage below comfortable indoor temperatures.
Notes & Curiosities
- The name is handy: pandurate means fiddle-shaped, which is a useful ID clue.
⚠ Toxicity: toxic to pets, toxic to humans. Araceae plant with insoluble calcium oxalate crystals; chewing can irritate the mouth and digestive tract.
