Origin & Habitat
Western Colombia to Ecuador.
First described by Luis Sodiro. (1903)
Description
Large elongated to heart-shaped foliage with prominent veining and a marbled or patterned impression; texture can be substantial.
Upright collector foliage Anthurium with large leaves held from a central crown/stem.
Botanical Notes
marmoratum means marbled.
Accepted Anthurium species. POWO lists it as a subshrub from the wet tropical biome.
Care Guide
Keep warm and humid with bright filtered light and a chunky, evenly moist but oxygen-rich root zone.
Repotting
Repot only when needed into a chunky bark/perlite/coco or similar aroid mix. Keep the crown above the mix and avoid oversized pots.
Feeding
Monthly at quarter to half strength during active growth. Flush occasionally if using mineral fertiliser.
Common Problems
- Leaf damage from low humidity; root rot in stale media; mislabelling with other green or marbled collector Anthuriums.
Notes & Curiosities
- The species name basically means “marbled”, which is a rare moment of botanical naming being helpful.
⚠ Toxicity: toxic to pets, toxic to humans. Araceae plant with insoluble calcium oxalate crystals; chewing can irritate the mouth and digestive tract.
